NOTE: You cannot add custom images as your background in Teams until you have first used at least one of the default images supplied by Microsoft. If you have already done this, you can skip to step #2.

Step #1: Change your background to one of the default images supplied by Microsoft (only needs to be done once).

Join your Teams meeting (you can create your own Teams meeting and join it) or a video chat and click on the ‘More’ button (the one with a three dot icon) on the controls bar:

Then, select ‘Video effects and settings’ from the available options in the drop down menu:

A ‘Video effects and settings’ panel will show on the right side of the Microsoft Teams app. Scroll through the available images and select one to temporarily set as the background. The selected image is highlighted with a purple border and a tick-mark on the top-right corner of the image. Select the image you want then hit the Apply and turn on video button.

Step #2:  Now you are ready to place your custom images into Teams!

To easily access ‘Uploads’ folder in Teams to add your own images, first, right-click on the Start button and select ‘Run’ from the available options to open the ‘Run’ command window.

Then, copy & paste the folder address mentioned below in the ‘Run’ window and hit Enter or click OK.

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams\Backgrounds\Uploads

This will open the ‘Backgrounds’ folder inside the Microsoft Teams AppData folder on your PC.

Put any image you want to set as a background image in your Microsoft Teams meetings to this folder. You can add as many custom images as you wish.

Now, open the Microsoft Teams again on your computer. Start a video chat or meeting, click on the 'More' > ‘Video effects and settings’ button. You should see all your custom background images available to select in the side panel now.

NOTE: Your custom background image will appear on the bottom of the list of images.
